What We Did on Our Holiday (2014)

Doug and Abi are separated but don't want to ruin his Dad's birthday with the news. They drive from London, with their 3 kids, to Scotland for the big day. While Doug is fighting with his brother, the kids spend time with their Grandpa, who is dying of cancer. Family drama surrounds their holiday.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019)

The Second Part begins where the first film ended. Duplo creatures are invading Bricksburg. Emmet tries to stop them but they destroy the city. Now in Apocalypsburg the heroes face a new threat. Lucy and the others are kidnapped while Emmet is left behind. The story follows Emmet's journey to find his friends.

The same team created this as the first one
It starts right after the end of the first one


Downsides
Not as funny as the first one - a lot of referential humour and less original jokes (there are some really good jokes with dinosaur subtitles)
A musical - I love musicals but this felt unnecessary

Anon (2018)

In an alternative present, crimes are solved immediately. Everyone has a visual record that can be accessed by police to determine guilt or innocence. As long as the victim sees the crime the police know who is guilty. Detective Sal is on the case of a murder where the victim did not see the murderer - his record was hacked. This leads to an investigation of hackers that can erase things from visual records and the discovery of a person of Anonymity.

The Kid Who Would Be King (2019)

The movie follows Alex and his best friend Bedders as they go on a quest with Merlin to defeat Morgana before the solar eclipse.

Upsides
Casting - Young Merlin is fantastic
The grounding in our reality (cell phones,  references to pop culture...)
In the tradition of 80s and 90s movies - kids save the day and the adults are useless :)

Morgana is less scary than her minions that have been fighting and losing to the heroes from the beginning

Mary Poppins Returns (2018)

Mary Poppins Returns follows the grown Banks children and Michael's children on a new adventure with the magical nanny. Michael's wife has died and he is bankrupt when Mary Poppins comes to help. She takes care of the 3 children in her magical musical way. Jack, the lamplighter, accompanies them on their adventures in depression-era London.

Venom (2018)

Venom follows journalist Eddie Brock as he investigates Carlton Drake. He is doing experiments causing death. Eddie follows the information until he is attacked inside one of Carlton Drake's labs. Eddie thinks he is sick until Venom reveals himself and his powers.

Real strong origin story - clear motivation for both protagonist and antagonist
Good fight scenes
Enter the Spiderverse without Spiderman actually works

Downside
A lot of swearing for PG13
Venom and the other symbiotes look very similar and can be hard to tell apart in dimly lit scenes

Guibord s'en va-t-en guerre (2015)

My Internship in Canada

This French Canadian film follows a Haitian intern to a Quebec member of parliament. He arrives as tensions lead to a nation wide issue in which the MP has the deciding vote.

Upside
Funny - I know I missed things because I was watching with English subtitles
Authentic - As someone who grew up in small town Canada I found this hilarious and realistic to a point. People who have never lived in a small town may not enjoy it as thoroughly as I did.

People will miss out on this because it is french
